This is a must-have tool for those who work on their own cars. It is very well-built and versatile for troubleshooting modern cars.
I've tried multiple scanners and I have settled on the XTool D7 for my DIY home mechanic work. I like the bi-directional capabilities of this scanner. It does more than just read OBDC II error codes, it will scan every electronically controlled system on the car, front to back. It finds codes that my other scanners do not. Very comprehensive.
One of my favorite features is Key Programming under the Special Functions. I had a few beat-up key fobs that were falling apart. Now my cars have new keys I ordered from Amazon and programmed with the XTool D7. Do you know how much money that has saved me? I can easily pay for this scanner just by programing three or four keys for myself, compared to what a dealer charges to do it.
After an update a few months back, this scanner is virtually the equivalent of the XTool D8, a much more expensive scanner. All that is missing on the D7 is ECU coding, which is something a DIY person should not do anyway because it can totally whack your car's computer if you enter incorrect coding. If you don't need to directly program your car's computer, the D7 has everything you will need to maintain your vehicle. I love the detailed reports that I can send myself from the D7 and print them on my computer's printer.
I use this scanner regularly to make sure nothing is failing on my five cars. It covers them all, with a 3-year free software upgrade. After three years it will cost you a little over $100 per year to keep the subscription current, in case you need to cover new cars. Your older cars will not require an upgrade to continue scanning them. I highly recommend this full car/truck computer system and OBDC II scanner..
I conducted a lot of research before deciding to purchase the Xtool IP919PRO.This new product is the most powerful and feature-packed one Xtool has ever made. The feature-set stood out for this product when compared to others. I have been working with computing technologies for many years including building computers, have used other scan tools and have come to the conclusion that it's best to purchase a product that exceeds your current needs in order to assure longevity with regard to long-term use. This product, although a bit more expensive, offers many additional features, which over time may save you money in the long-run which could potentially off-set the additional cost. At this price point, I do think that it should include life-time updates, but it does offer (3) years of updates free of cost. This may not be a game changer as many high-end products of this type also charge for updates. On several occasions, I have reached out to support and have received courteous, timely and professional responses each time, which included screen shots! If you are a visual learner, you will find this to be especially helpful. Some of the hidden features that may not be obvious in the product description include the ability to set up an email account, along with a built-in camera, video camera and screen shot button which enables you to capture and send various images and reports via email. Some vehicles do not include an automated (maintenance light reset) as a vehicle feature that allows you to click a button from an external device such as the (IP919PRO) or other OBDII scan tool. They may involve a process of pressing the odometer while turning the ignition switch or some other combination. I was especially impressed when the (IP919PRO) displayed the step by step process within it's interface. I was not expecting that! It also appears to have a built-in videoconferencing function, which if I am correct, allows you to share a downloadable application the enables you to connect virtually with a technician, or anyone you share it with, for assistance. The wifi supports both 2.4 and 5 ghz. It also has a built-in web browser! The company appears to be very active in developing and pushing out updates, which is a good indication that they are being assertive in ongoing product research, development and support.
Far better than the snapon matco scanners. Has more functions and at a fraction of the price
The IP919 Pro has taken my diagnostics to the next level. This Xtool IP919 is super fast, has a big screen, and features Topology, which makes everything easier to see and understand. It has the most comprehensive key programming abilities of any scan tool on the market, second only to a dedicated key programmer. I've successfully programmed keys and accessed PIN codes and passwords for Chrysler, Jeep, Nissan, Toyota, Ford, GM, and Honda.
Whats great about the IP919 is that if a manufacturer allows a certain bi-directional functional check or active test, the IP919 can do it. The IP919 is Xtool's top-of-the-line scanner, and it definitely shows. This scan tool boasts 42+ special functions, and the IP919 can display up to 8 graphs at once, all of which are fast and smooth.
The IP919 uses a WiFi VCI, meaning it communicates with the scanner via WiFi instead of Bluetooth. You dont need to be connected to WiFi to use the scan tool; it just means the connection between the scan tool and the VCI is faster and has a greater range.
One thing that really sets the IP919 apart from other Xtool scanners is its ability to program modules for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and VW. This means you can replace modules yourself and get back on the road without a trip to the dealer.
If you need a top-of-the-line scan tool that can handle anything you throw at it, check out the Xtool IP919.
Let me preface this with the fact I have been using scanners since 1995 on Chevrolet ALDL and now OBD2 ports. Have used professional versions and hobbyist, as well. This standalone scanner is easy to navigate and operate. I do reccomend validating your need through customer service as some current model carss are hit and miss with which features work until you get into pro shop versions. This scanner runs right along with those for many things! I was able to quickly update an item on a Dodge other scan tools had difficulty achieving. I am impressed in its abilities accross the board as was able to scan all the systems and print a record directly from the scan tool. I think I have my new go to scanner. This is a worthwhile purchase for me.
I like how the XTool IP919 has a really user friendly menu that is easy to follow and understand. The IP919 comes in a hard case with a lot of attachments to fit a lot of vehicles.
I just received my IP919 less than a week ago so I can not tell you about the battery life yet. I am expecting the battery to last a long time.
Overall I am very satisfied with my XTool IP919. I also like that the IP919 comes with 3 years of free updates. I recommend the XTool IP919. You can't go wrong with this bidirectional scan tool.
I am so happy I bought this tool and can't say enough good things about it. It does so much more than the other code readers I have used in the past. The bidirectional capability takes this tool to a new level where I can turn valves and things on and off, measure and take readings and graph functions is awesome. Believe me it pays for itself the first time you use it. It even programs cars keys. I am just your average do it yourself.
home mechanic who has been working on my own cars for 40 years, since I was a teenager.
Used on my new truck. Discovered some things about my work car no one else would have been able to find. Can't wait to use it to make adjustments on my other vehicles!
I have checked several key programmers and diagnostic devices combined. This seemed to be the best value for money. We use it in our workshop everyday. We are highly satisfied with its features and functionality.
I was able to find and clear so many faults. I have a Kia,Hyundai Ford and Honda. I was able to clear multiple false codes allowing my Hondas driver aids to be usable again. The Kia I was able to follow a fault in vehicle stability fault to a bad wheel sensor, live data showed the tire sensor indicated a speed of 157 mph, the car was sitting in park in the driveway. The Ford I was able to clear the faults after the car was repaired from damage to the rear bumper and the battery was disconnected.

Ordered a VCI from Xtool and you can not tell the difference from the original and one I received .
As a DIY mechanic, this tool lets me fully understand what’s going on and what to fix or have fixed. Being able to check all the lights and systems is such a great option.
I was very please with the high quality of the adapter I'm sure it will last for years. Anyone with an older Mercedes it's a must have.
Make sure you give them the serial number of your device otherwise the can be hard to get ahold of when they ask for it
Ive always wanted a mechanic quality scanner tool but hesitated due to the price. When I saw this one and the reviews I decided to give it a try and so far this has been a very awesome tool. I am not a certified mechanic, more of a diy maintenance guy but the functions I have been able to play around with as well as the versatility has been great. I used it to program a new key for my maxima and read codes and even troubleshoot my Toyota. The only issue I ran into was the limited functions I could do to my Subaru. But still I think a great buy, I especially like the free updates for three years as I feel that is great compared to other more expensive options.
